I went to Parkville Elementary and GNS Junior High. In the summer of 1969, we moved to Hollywood, Florida, because Eastern Airlines transferred my father to Miami. There, I learned to appreciate the excellence of my New York education, as I sat and worked alone in the back of my math classes because I was so far ahead of everyone else! I did have one inspirational teacher, George Steeves, who taught sociology and social studies and coached the swim team.

For college, I headed west, to the University of Colorado, where I majored in sociology. After that, graduate school at the University of Washington, followed by an academic appointment at the University of Virginia. I discovered that academia was not for me, and life in the south was not for us, so my husband and I headed back to Seattle, where every day for a year we exclaimed “We’re so glad we live in Seattle!”

I built a new career in the brand strategy and graphic design industry, doing research, marketing, and account management. After nearly 12 years, the company I worked for was sold to a global conglomerate, the dot.com bubble burst, and the nature of our business changed dramatically. So I took a sabbatical, expecting to go back to work after doing things I never had time for during my intense career days, but instead rekindled my love of horses, and bought a horse! As my trainer says, “it’s a lifestyle” and I am immersed in it.
